A lot of people won't be interested in this book because they have no idea what pachinko means and what exactly is going on. But believe me, this book is really good.

This is a historical family story set in Korea and Japan throughout the 20th century. It follows four generations of a Korean family through the political turmoil of Japanese colonization, the hardship of wartime, seeking a new and better life in Japan, and witnessing the home they left become divided into two countries they hardly recognize.
As someone who knows very little about Korean history, this book was absolutely fascinating.

Pachinko, we soon find out, is a kind of Japanese arcade game, and working in a pachinko parlor was considered a typical job for a Korean looking to get some money. Many Japanese looked down upon pachinko parlor workers, viewing them as shady and dishonest.

It was both interesting and deeply saddening to hear about what these people went through, how easy it was for Koreans to be imprisoned indefinitely without trial. And after years of hardship and discrimination, after pushing through and finally earning enough money to have stability, many could never go back.

The fictional characters the author creates come sparking off the page from the resilient Sunja who once foolishly believed in the love of an older man, to Noa who will never quite recover from the dishonor of his lineage, to Solomon who is still trying to escape the negative stereotypes associated with Koreans many years after his grandmother arrived in Japan.

Have you seen the live action Tv series of Pachinko starring Lee Min Ho (My fav korean actor), Acedamy award winner Yuon Yuh jung, Kim Min Ha and Jin Ha? That was so good and I binged watch the series.

Thank you so much for giving such a great historical drama. The scenes while I reading the books was just like in the series even if there's not a great detail just in book. The fish market, the plight of farmers and their families, the small scale businesses that struggled to survive during war and yeah Koh Hansu indeed!

If you want to get a glimpse of the era of korean-japan revolution, just read this book and watch the sereis.

And another thing is Lee Min Jin was a new author to me but She's a wonderfully talented author who's words can swept us away.So if you wanna get more of her works, or basically about her you can tune up the podcast station named https://talkeasypod.com. You can visit there Instagram account https://www.instagram.com/talkeasypod/ to know more details.

On 19th March, Sunday, they  released a special conversation with novelist Min Jin Lee. In it, she walks through her journey from Seoul to New York City, her path to writing Free Food for Millionaires and Pachinko, and the central theme of her unreleased third novel, American Hog-won

Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Julie has her future all planned out—move out of her small town with her boyfriend Sam, attend college in the city, spend a summer in Japan. But then Sam dies. And everything changes.

Heartbroken, Julie skips his funeral, throws out his things, and tries everything to forget him and the tragic way he died. But a message Sam left behind in her yearbook forces back memories. Desperate to hear his voice one more time, Julie calls Sam’s cellphone just to listen to his voicemail.

And Sam picks up the phone.

Review πŸ“š:
In my opinion, if a book can make you cry or can make you feel the emotions and feelings in a book, it’s a successful one just like this one.

You’ve reached Sam literally made my heart ache for Julie and Sam’s relationship and how it ended abruptly. I felt the pain Julie’s and Mika’s and everyone who knew Sam in Ellensburg town.

I love these characters as well as the story. Actually if I’m being honest, I really wanted to support Julie but in the first few chapters she gave this selfish and rude vibe but well, at the end that’s how people grieving in some point. She didn’t want to go or want to think that Sam has gone forever.

The plot isn’t a heavy one so you can read it within a day. Overall this book still is a beautifully written tearjerker no doubt! The last two chapters though😭

So, before you read this book I have to say, if you lost someone recently and someone very close to you this book may not be for youπŸ₯Ί

Q : “What space or Science fiction book you like most?”

Finished the Aurora Cycle and I’m totally obsessed!
I’m going to be honest with you here, the authors were the duo to write one of my ALL TIME FAVOURITE SERIES! I'm left speechless. After I finished the book I needed a few moments to process what I read. Those last pages were what I was expecting from the whole book when I started reading it. I really liked the story line and I'm curious how the plot will develop in the next book (soon).
I like the POV’s and the humour and every little detail and the writing style. Amie and Jay had taken me to a different world no doubt.

Another thing I have to say is, I was looking for this book on every bookshop and even in the book depository site but according to the currently rate I couldn’t afford it. That’s when I found them @thelibrary_lk . Actually highly recommended book seller island wide and their delivery is super fast!
If you wanna preorder a book, this is the perfect place for ya!

So finally I recommend you to read this book.
